Yes the toilet blocks are old, but they are clean, and tidy, the site was smart with plenty of hot water and some more to mention in a moment. However, I remember Camping and Caravan Club sites back when one was lucky to have a toilet block, usually it was a farmers field, standpipe for water and a drain to empty the waste down, and if you was "rich" enough to have a portal-loo, then you had to dispose of it's contents down a man hole cover, so that's basic.
Todays Club sites seem to be very much more orientated to those that want everything, ok, so the wifi's spotty, at Milarrochy Bay, I was lucky if I had 1mbps down, forget the up speed it was in the kilobytes, and as to my surprise 5G on Three worked (it does't at home) that was good enough for me.
So the amenities, to my surprise there was a co-ed w.c and shower area in the Backpackers lodge, as I'm trans I'm happy with that, I couldn't care less if I wasn't trans, but going camping, I was a little worried about how I look etc, to a point that, for work I don't wear makeup and look a bit blokie, so for this trip I decided to bite my lip and just use the gents, I would rather that than anyone getting upset or what ever. That's my choice and I'm OK with that. Besides, if you have an issue with a Co-Ed bathroom then use the other toilet block, they are almost on top of each other, and if you still have an issue that there is a co-ed bathroom on site, well erm I think you have issues.
The back packers facility had a double socket with 2 usb ports, I wasn't on electric hook up, and managed ok, tbh I'm not trust worthy enough of thatchers that I would leave anything charging on it's own, and didn't particularly want to sit there for hours charging stuff up.
One thing really did stand out was that they had an area set aside with free heated lockers, so that you could hang up wet gear and take the key and leave stuff drying over night. Intentionally setup up for back packers, but for us bikers - dried gear, OMG!!! I suppose my only gripe so far is the inability at other Club sites to offer this. My wet gear is good but if the outer layers have not dried the inside layers feel cold and its not great, obviously with my gloves I do the age old biker trick at each stop, and that's to shove them around the engine block somewhere. With the weather the way it was, I was getting to the point that, with out drying out my gear properly, I might call it a day and ride home.
I couldn't fault the site at all, maybe the road in and the nasty 110degree back on yourself bend that's almost at a 40 degree uphill climb with pot holes and loose gravel, but the the club can not be blamed for that, besides, if you can't negotiate that then, I highly suggest you go back and learn how to drive and not just pass a test, as I swore at the car in front of me who stalled it on that hill. ( Wait for that video ;-) )
All the Club Sites I've stayed at so far have been amazing, so why am I singling this site out a little more than the others I've stayed at, well it has to be the views, don't get me wrong everywhere so far has been an amazing place to stay and have some stunning views, but I wanted to have a separate post with the images and videos of the scenery.
Within walking distance (yeah right - not me lol) there is a nice village shop which has most things, a coffee shop and a pub called the Oak Inn, and food was a little pricey, but it seems to be the going rate for these Scotland touristy areas. As you can see from the food picture that my visor was still wet. Then food was that good that I ate there both nights.
Wait for Day 6's post as I had visitors this night!!!
