Originally I had planned that I would visit 2 or 3 castles on the way to Huntly Castle Caravan and Camping site. However that didn't go to plan and so the run up here was a little boring, well I say that, I'll get back to that in a moment.
I decided to top off the tank at Asda again and get a decent coffee, I've been getting on average 50MPG with all the wait on the bike and after yesterday's blat about, that's dropped to 40mpg, which was still pretty good, most of the north side of Loch Ness you can do in 6th gear at 60mph, the south side, yeah that one you using the gears and going for it, one could say I was a little rude the day before :-)
Whilst I sat at Starbucks I decided to see how far from home I am, 9.5 hours and 585miles... Despite having the sniffles, not sleeping well due to a heavy wind the previous night, loosing an SD card, constantly setting up and de-camping in the wet, is starting to take it's toll. Then there's the isolation!!!
What's the point of doing this if I'm constantly wet, cold and fairly misserable. I'm used to the isolation at home, no one actually calls or pops round apart from one or two, but those visits are sporadic at best. People I've met on my travels are generally nice, and apart rom the where are you from etc, I'm pretty much left to it. So why do this and why not just travel home, I can sit at home and be miserable, at least I'll be dry, warm and can live off virtually nothing.
The forecast for Huntley was a yellow thunderstorm warning and even though it hadn't actually hit Huntly, it did come down on my whilst I was riding to Huntly Castle. Upon arriving, I was soaked through.
I'm pitched in a lovely area, and the neighbours from Aberdeen, said hello and even got my a pint of milk from Tesco's when they popped down there. That made my day, that and saying hello to your 6month puppy.
I had a walk around Huntly this evening, this place is dead, so many closed shops, more fast food places that you can shake a stick at and not badly priced fish and chip shop. I had a Mega burger and chips for £7.20 but if I'm honest I would rather of had a McDonalds.
On my walk back to the camp site, I found the ruins of Huntly Castle, where I'll have to buy a ticket at the visitors centre wherever that maybe and I'll try that tomorrow, or I'll shoot into Aberdeen, which was partially my plan in booking here in the first place.
At least the wifi here is good and I can get some images uploaded for the past few blog posts.
