It was a hot ride today, despite coming down with a cold, I stopped of at the Corrieshalloch Gorge, and as it didn't say how much to pay for parking I opted to move the bike to a maybe on the other side of the road. I don't know why I do this, but yet again, helmet in tow, I walked down to see the gorge. It was impressive. Desperate for a coffee, or any drink for that matter I set off and round the corner was a coffee shop dedicated for the Gorge visitors, upon entering the car park I saw a sign that stated £5 for parking a motorbike. Yeah I ain't paying that so I rode through and left. The idea being that charging for parking meant raising money to keep the paths and bridges to the gorge in good order. I get that but com on I'm on a motor bike, it's painful enough carrying the gear. Turns out a lot of people parked round the corner and walked over. Besides the next waypoint on my sat nav said Lael Crafts and Coffee shop. So I stopped there. This craft shop my mum and nan would have loved, filled with home made wooded nick sacks and water colours. They would have been browsing for days. The coffee and cake was nice, although I'm not sure about the Walnut and Courgette cake was a good mix.
Then it was time to hit the road, I decided to stop for full just to top of the tank as I had read that the petrol price in Durness was over £2 a litre, I would expect it to be a bit higher up here, but that takes the biscuit, So I opened to pay £1.74 a litre. Its mad the way the range and trip counter works, by the look of things I'm getting over 200miles on a tank, almost 60 miles per gallon.
I arrived at Sango Sands in Durness just as it started to rain, so that meant a very quick pitch up, the take away wasn't badly priced at £8.00 for Pukka Chicken and Mushroom pie and cheesy chips. Although I would have to say I've had better chips, and I think the pie was microwaved from the freezer. But it saved cooking.
The rain died off, and then the sun came out, So it was time for a stroll, The beech here is sandy, and if I didn't know I was in Scotland I swear I would have thought I was in the Mediterranean, the water is that clear.
Its nuts as up here it isn't dark until about midnight, and its light from 4am, so I haven't needed to use a torch. The sun started setting around 10:30pm with one of the most amazing sunsets I've seen.
Still with this cold flu thing, I dosed up with lemsips I got from the local shop, and went to bed.
