Anyway it was time to say good by to Skye Camping and Caravanning Club site after I boiled in my textiles putting the tent away. The run to Poolewe was fun in places, mainly the roads and scenery was amazing, that was until I hit some really bad roads, where the sides had dropped away, massive post holes and the usual "throw some grit down on tarmac" type of road repairs, I'm surprised both toothless and I are still upright. Okay, I did get a little chicken in places and dropped my speed down to 30mph or so, but if you had ridden those roads, I doubt you would have kept the speed any higher, needless to say they was still fun roads, and after coming off a dodgy B road, we made it the Midget Bite Cafe, a well designed stop for Frappuccino and cake. By this time the air temperature sensed by the bike had reached 26C and there's me with my textiles on and they still had the thermo lining inside. One could say I was one sweaty, smelly rider.
My plan is not to do the NC500, although part of my route is basically two thirds of it, going by the state of the roads I would say no. If I was to do the NC500 in the future, I think I'd B&B it rather than camping as it would be a little bit more relaxing. That's not to say my trip isn't relaxing, but today's ride and then setting up camp has taken it out of me. Judging by how bad the roads are, I can expect a little more of the same tarmac when I leave Poolewe and head towards Durness as I'm staying at the Sango Sands camping park.
At least this time I was setting up the tent in the sunshine, it was so hot that I managed to get my short on, so I could loose the leggings and I put up the tent with no shoes on, the ground was that dry. Then a few hours later the heavens opened up and it pelted it down all night.
